Why: I thought it was funny, and also liked the "black ships" graphic and brown-on-brown design.
Comment: The kanji is the famous Meiji Restoration slogan "Sonnō jōi", which translates (according to JBOX, anyway) loosely as "Support the emperor and expel the foreign barbarians."
