Tiger Beer.
Size: L
Where: Viet Nam
Why: Dagfinn and Laura brought this back for me from their trip to Viet Nam last December.
Comment: The shirt is made not of the soft, slightly stretchy cotton we're used to, but a very smooth, taut, almost thin-canvas-y material. I love this shirt and live in eternal fear that it's gonna get caught on a thorn or a wire or even my glasses, and rip.
Did you know that Anthony Burgess' first novel, Time for a Tiger, was named after Tiger Beer's slogan at the time? After it was published, he contacted Fraser and Neave (producers of Tiger Beer at the time) and asked for a complimentary clock with the slogan on it; they refused. Years later, after Burgess had become much more famous, the company told him that he could drink as much of their beer as he wanted, free of charge, whenever he was in Singapore. This time, Burgess refused; he had moved on to gin by then.
